The Lord's Taverners raises over £30,000 for good causes

The LTs is the official national charity for recreational cricket and we commit 50% of the funds we raise each year to provide grants in support of youth cricket (e.g. non-turf pitches, equipment bags, provision of funding to re-establish cricket in state schools, etc). The charity’s aim is to give as many young people as possible a sporting chance and, therefore, we aim to distribute our limited resources as widely and as fairly as possible.  

We have also agreed to give £1million over a five-year period to support the Chance to Shine campaign.   

MINI BUSES We put over 950 minibuses on the road since 1975 which equates to nearly 1 every 10 days which puts us as the 2^nd biggest supplier of minibuses behind the Variety Club of Great Britain.  

SPORTS WHEELCHAIRS We also assist with the purchase of manual chairs and is aimed at those between 8 and 25 years of age. We will generally award funds of up to 50% of the cost of the wheelchair to those who apply through their sports club, association or school.

We also have a multi-sports wheelchair scheme which enables applicants to obtain a chair at a subsidised cost of £350  

PLAY EQUIPMENT AND SENSORY ROOMS We focus our support to schools, clubs and other organisations who cater for youngsters under the age of 25 years with a physical and or learning disability. Grants are awarded for sensory, soft play and outdoor play equipment.  

DEVON & CORNWALL XMAS LUNCH Unfortunately, because someone did not come forward to claim their purchase of the auction prize of a day at Taunton Races, we raised just over £30,000 as opposed to the £31,000 previously announced. This is still a record for the Exeter lunch and when we combine it with the lunch held at Plymouth the previous day then we have raised close to £50,000 and close to £60,000 over the calendar year.  

Last year, we spent over £40,000 throughout Devon and Cornwall.  

As for the day itself, we were entertained by Ray Clemence and Mick Miller as well as supported by Nicholas Parsons (as President of the Devon and Cornwall Region of the LTs) and Barry Norman who is the current President of the Lord’s Taverners.  

The room was packed with 430 people and the lunch was sold out within 3 days.
